The second qualifying meeting for this years Speedway World Team Cup took place at the Norfolk Arena, Kings Lynn which is a track that many of the riders lining up for Team GB, Sweden, Australia and Finland had little experience of.
The track was in super condition and allowed the riders to take many different lines and this, coupled with the desire to qualify direct to Saturdays final at Vojens in Denmark, produced some super racing.
Right from the start the Aussies took the advantage but Team GB never gave up and the gap between the 2 teams was never more than 3 points in the early half of the meeting.
The meeting had everything - drama with falls, rider exclusions and some quite brilliant passing most notably from Chris Harris and Scott Nicholls, though it must be said that all 5 riders for Team GB gave their all - something that the football team would do well to take note of, for they never gave up.
The meeting had drama right to the end with Team GB leading the way by 2 points going into the final heat, but a firecracker of a start from Scott Nicholls ensured that the team have a few days rest whilst Australia and Sweden will ride in the play-off on thursday evening where the top 2 will join Team GB and Poland in Denmark.
The final score was Team GB 51 points, Australia 48 points, Sweden 40 points and Finland 14 points, with the Team GB scorers as follows:-
1. Scott Nicholls - 2, 3, 3, 3, 3 = 14
2. Lee Richardson - 1, 2, 2, 2, 3 = 10
3. Tai Woffinden - 2, FX, 2, 3, 0 = 7
4. Simon Stead - 3, 2, 1, 1, X = 7
5. Chris Harris - 3, 3, 3, 1, 3 = 13
