Millar (pictured above), who is a part owner in the developmental Garmin-Chippottle team, rode really well over the 29.5km time trial to finish third in a time of 36 minutes and 2.52 seconds. This was eighteen seconds behind Stefan Schumacher who also took over the Maillot Jaune slot with Kim Kerchen second.
Kerchen took the white jersey and said to his team's media: "I felt really good today and I had Rolf in my ear giving me very good information. It was really motivating. "I was actually a little surprised at how well I rode in the time trial," he added. "I felt great on the bike and the crowds along the roads really helped me keep focussed."
Millar, who said that it was a good day for him, is now third in the standings with Mark Cavendish, who took it steady after two hard stages is in 98th place.
