At a half full Sky Dome, front man Adam Calder who is expected to become the coach of new side Braehead Clan had Coventry in front on 13.34 with a powerplay goal, assisted by Jon Weaver and Luke Fulghum.
Calder (pictured above) added a second, one minute and sixteen seconds into the second period, assisted by Russ Cowley and Danny Stewart before Edinburgh pulled one back through Owen Fussey on 25.58.
Needing two wins from their remaining three games, the second of which is in Edinburgh on Saturday, Coventry kept attacking and Brad Cruickshank hit the third on 28.28, assisted by Greg Owen and Brian Lee.
On 47.33, Adam Calder completed his hat-trick when he fired home assisted by Derek Campbell and Danny Stewart.
Blaze kept up the pressure and youngster Aaron Neil got in on the act, scoring on 54.42, assisted by Dan Carlson and Luke Fulghum.
Then with ninety three seconds of the match remaining, Danny Stewart hit a sixth goal for Coventry, who face Belfast Giants in their final league match at home on Sunday, when he scored a powerplay goal.
