The Coventry Cassidy Jets have been handed a tough draw in the 2009 EFAF Cup. Despite being the highest ranked team in the tournament the British Champions face difficult trips to both Prague and Zurich. Recently appointed new General Manager Will White was pleased by the news "They'll give us an early test and have us well up to speed for when the British season begins and we start the defence of our title".
April sees the Jets take on the Zurich Renegades at the Looren Sports Park in their first ever trip to Switzerland as they head out for the match up on the 18th. Whilst the Renegades didn't compete in Europe last year they finished their domestic campaign with a 7-1 record winning the National Title 52-27 over the Landquart Broncos. The Swiss Champions should provide a stern challenge for their guests as they enter their third season in Europe.
Four weeks later on May 16th the Jets will be in the Czech capital where they take on last seasons beaten semi-finalists the Prague Panthers. After succumbing to the eventual Champions, Berlin Adler, the Panthers turned their attention to the Czech league beating local rivals the Prague Lions to clinch their second straight and tenth overall National title re-affirming their status as the most successful team in Czech history.
Should the Jets qualify from the, so called, group of death they would likely host the semi-final at their new, soon to be unveiled, home venue. The opponents would come from a group featuring a couple of teams the Jets know quite well in the Farnham Fast Lane Knights and the Oslo Vikings. The third team in the group are outsiders the Amsterdam Crusaders.
