Warwickshire had a reasonable day on the opening day of their County Championship home match with Middlesex.. The Londoners batted first and were up against a spirited Darren Maddy who took 4-25. The captain was one of seven bowlers used as Warwicks took nine wickets in 96 overs. Only Smith (85) and Joyce (60) showed any resistance as the visitors closed on 285-9.
