Warwickshire won the toss and opted to field first at New Road. With Chris Martin bowling, Worcestershire Royals were 46-0 with Vic Solanki and Graham Hick hitting some stunning shots including four consecutive fours after five overs.
In the sixth over, Hick,who faced only nine balls, was out for 18 caught by Chris Woakes off the bowling of Neil Carter, who only conceded three runs off the over.
With the powerplay over, Ant Botha kept up the pressure and long with Carter mainly reducing Worcestershire to singles. It was Botha who took the second Worcestershire wicket with the score on 59 when Mohan Ali was caught by Jim Troughton.
Ben Smith came in and worked well with Solanki who passed the fifty mark at the end of the 13th over and the score on 90-2. Solanki was gone the next ball he faced when he was caught off the bowling of Ian Salisbury.
Stephen Moore was stumped for ten by Tony Frost to give Salisbury a second wicket. There were no more wickets and Worcestershire closed on 141-4 with Ben Smith 36 not out and Kabir Ali 17 not out.
In front of a sell out crowd but with a pretty quiet atmosphere, Neil Carter opened for Warwicks along with Jon Trott, Warwicks top run scorer in Twenty/20 cricket.
Carter was the first out for eight when he was caught by Kabir Ali with only another run added. Warwicks needed to up the tempo but by the end of the fifth over, the score was 28-1.
Jim Troughton became the first player to hit a six in the match when he took twelve in three balls in the ninth over and Warwicks 76-1 at the halfway stage. In the next over, Troughton was bowled by Simon Jones for 30.
The one hundred was brought up in the thirteenth over which brought twenty runs. Trott kept chipping away and passed the fifty mark to leave Warwicks needing 27 to win from thirty balls.
Tony Frost kept the scoring ticking before he was caught by Hick for 27 and Warwicks needing six runs to win. That was chipped down by Trott who finished on 61 not out. and Ian Westwood hit the runs to give Warwickshire a seven wicket victory.
Neil Carter was named as man of the match.
