According to this morning's CT, Coventry City are expected to retain their Academy.
The City Board had discussed the possibility of downsizing to a Centre Of Excellence, amongst many numerous cuts, but today's news gives hope that this 'backwards' step for the club will not be happening.
If you go back three years then City's Academy was amongst the best in the country with sides like Chelsea and Tottenham all being beaten at The Alan Higgs Centre. Not only did the U18's win their league but they progressed to the semi-final in one season and the final the next which they lost thanks to some refereeing decisions.
Although, performances from the U18's over the last two seasons have not been as good as we would wish, there are hopes that the crop of youngsters, many from Coventry, can go on to form a strong side and eventually progress to the first team.
Isaac Osbourne, Kevin Thornton and Ben Turner have all been regulars for the first team this season and coupled with the sales of Gary McSheffrey, Chris Kirkland and Callum Davenport is proof that City's Academy is working and with the backing of the Board and supporters will continue to flourish.
