Coventry City U18's went down to a very late goal defeat against Cardiff City this morning.

With Cyrus Christie loaned out to Nuneaton for the rest of the season and the demands of the first team, City U18's boss Greg Rioch was forced to shuffle his pack from the teams that had drawn against Spurs and gone out of the FA Youth Cup at Southend in midweek.

City wasted no time in getting intoi the opposition and took the lead with just under three and a half minutes gone thanks to a Gael Birgrimana 25 yard free kick on the right, sailing past the keeper on his near post.

Cardiff thought they had equalised in the eleventh minute when their centre forward capitalised on a defensive mistake and rounded Worby to score. However, he was adjudged to have used his hand and the eagle eyed assistant on the terrace side chalked off the goal.

The visitors were level in the 24th minute when a corner was headed in from close range by Dedgy Oshilala.

The strong wind that swept round the Alan Higgs Centre greatly affected the flowing football that both sides were trying to play.

In the 58th minute, Cardiff made the most of the wind when a twenty yard free kick flew into the net from their number four - Diallo.

City were level three minutes later when substitute Josh Ruffles was pulled down and Billy Daniels converted for his fourth goal in four matches.

Jordan Willis worked hard in City's defence in a game which saw the referee brandished a number of yellow cards.

The game was heading for a draw but in stoppage time, Cardiff won a corner and a near post header from substitute Josh Powell beat Alistair Worby to give Cardiff the victory.
