Coventry City U18's paid for failing to put away their chances and were beaten 2-0 in a friendly by Nottingham Forest at the Alan Higgs Centre this afternoon.
Greg Rioch's team attacked early on and a Jacob Blackwell cross was hacked off the line in the seventh minute before Connor Gudger fired wide from the rebound.
Shaun Jeffers was a big threat up front for the Sky Blues against a Forest side currently second in their division.
On the half hour mark, Jeffers had a shot on the turn saved and two minutes later, kept the keeper busy with a shot from inside the box.
Skipper Nathan Cameron had a fine game at centre half for City, leading the side and ensuring that Forest rarely threatened Michael Quirke's goal.
Just before the break, Jeffers headed over and for the second half, the Bedford born forward was joined up front by Robert Ogleby.
The speedy front-runner broke through, three minutes into the second half but saw his effort saw by the keeper who watched as Cyrus Christie curled over a minute later.
Forest broke up the other end from the resulting goal kick and won a corner. When it came over, their number five went in with his head to meet the ball and send it from six yards into the net.
Try as they might, it was not proving to be the Sky Blues afternoon. Ogleby sent a header wide before the visiting keeper superbly pushed over a Jeffers drive from the edge of the area on the hour mark.
With four minutes left, City attacked. Robert Ogleby got the ball on his right foot and hit a stunning shot which beat the keeper from 25 yards but bounced off the crossbar and out for a goal-kick.
Forest brought on five players and in two minutes into stoppage time, their number 14 got the ball on the left. Quirke pushed his initial shot on to his right hand post but the rebound fell to the unmarked Forest substitute who scored from six yards to give the visitors a 2-0 victory.
