Playing at Bodymoor Heath, Villa took the lead through Ebby Nelson-Addy but City levelled in the second half through Johnson Harris with Cyrus Christie having a penalty saved.
Speaking to the club website about the game, Rioch said: "It was an enjoyable game to watch and a much improved effort to the one we showed last week.
"We dominated much of the second half to be honest, we played some excellent football and I think really we deserved to come away from Villa with more than a point."
Speaking about the penalty, Coventry born Cyrus Christie had saved, Rioch said: "Professional careers are not made or lost on the back of a missed penalty. It's how you react to it which is most important and I was pleased with Cyrus' response after his initial disappointment.
"It took him ten or so minutes to compose himself after that but he went on to affect the game again and he got up extremely well for the header which eventually led to Harris' equalizer so I was very pleased.
"It was a really pleasing performance from the lads all round it after the disappointment of last week it was great to see them show what they are capable of."
City U18's are at home to MK Dons on Saturday.
