In their final game of 2017, Covenry City U23's were beaten 6-0 at Ipswich Town.
Jason Farndon and Mick Halsall fielded a team of U23's and U18's players for this game at Playford Road in Ipswich and like the Birmingham Senior Cup tie at Rushall Olympic which was City U23's last fixture, the Sky Blues were a goal down early doors.
Ipswich were ahead through a terrific shot from the edge of the area by Conor McKendry in the tenth minute and a minute later, Tom Bilson in the City goal was picking the ball out of the net, when Monty Patterson ran through and slipped the ball past him.
In the 34th minute, McKendry scored again with a free kick that went over City's wall and into the net and in the final minute of the first half, McKendry completed his hat-trick with a neat finish.
Coventry went 5-0 down in the 64th minute when McKendry played in Ben Morris who scored and ten minutes later, an already bad afternoon for City got worse when Jak Hickman picked up a second booking and wa sent off, leaving City with ten players for the final sixteen minutes.
In the 83rd minute, a 25 yard drive from Conor McKendry, made it 6-0 and gave the Irishman his fourth goal of the game and a heavy defeat for a ten man Sky Blues..
