City Youth Make FA Youth Cup Progress Again

Coventry City Youth are through to the FA Youth Cup Third Round after a 2-0 victory at Oldham Athletic in a Second Round tie at Boundary Park.

City took the lead very early on, through Jack Finch, who, scored from sixteen yards into the bottom left hand corner of the net.

In the 33rd minute, a great effort by Maund was tipped over by the keeper for a corner. Oldham went up the other end and it took a great save from Shane Fagan, back from his international stint with the Republic Of Ireland U18's, to deny the Latics at the other end.

Back came the Sky Blues and a deft little turn in the box by Ben Maund created a change on goal which produced a good save from the home keeper.

A surging run by Ivor Lawton who was the two goal hero in Saturday's 2-1 win at Birmingham City, resulted in a free kick which was taken by Louis Garner and just missed the left hand post.

Eleven minutes into the second half and a pass from defender Joe Pegg found Lewis Rankin, who flicked into the box for Ivor Lawton to strike the post.

With twenty minutes left, City got a second goal when a Rankin shot was parried by the keeper and Ivor Lawton clipped in.

Ian Foster made changes to the side bringing on Baker-Richardson, Quinn and Forrester as City booked their place in Round Three.

City will now meet Bristol Rovers, whom they met at the same stage of the competition last season, in a game which will be played at Nuneaton Town FC. Date to be announced.

City: Fagan, Pegg, Haynes, Fletcher, Finch (Quinn 85), Azille-Moore, Lobjoit, Garner (Forrester 87), Rankin, Lawton, Maund (Baker-Richardson 70). Subs Smith, Gott.
