Coventry City are through to the FA Youth Cup Second Round against either Oldham or Accrington after a 4-2 win over Shrewsbury Town at the Ricoh Arena.

City Academy Coach Ian Foster placed his scores Eli Bako and Jordan Forrester from the 2-2 draw at Leicester and included midfielder Leon Lobjoit, who has been signed after being released by MK Dons.

On a cold, damp night at the Ricoh Arena, City attacked the away end for the first half and in the second minute, Jack Finch had the first shot of the game when he fired a yard or so wide from twenty yards.

Shrewsbury were forced to clear a sixth minute corner off their goal-line, following some good work from Ben Maund.

The Sky Blues, watched by some of the first team plus Clive Platt and Dave Bennett, with Courtney Baker-Richardson posing a threat, continued to have the play.

The crowd appealed for a 12th minute penalty when Ben Maund was sent flying but referee Mr Aventy was having nothing to do with it.

Maund forced Connor Weaking in to a save with his legs in the 22nd minute, and four minutes later, Ivor Lawton, playing at right back won a corner.

Lobjoit, who showed some neat touches, sent one just over from 25 yards as the Sky Blues continued to take the game to Wayne Evans' side.

A goal had to come and in the 34th minute, City had a corner and Jack Finch rose on the edge of the area to head over a defender on the line and into the net.

Shrewsbury won their first corner in the 43rd minute which Sam Molyneux sent past the post and they were straight back on the attack, winning another corner with a deflected shot.

On the stroke of half-time, City increased their lead when Louis Garner went on a twenty yard run and beat Weaking with a low shot from twenty five yards in to the bottom corner.

Ninety seconds after the restart, Shrewsbury reduced the arrears when the ball came over to George Carpenter at the far post who beat Shane Fagan, wearing a pink top, grey shorts and white socks, from close range.

Some good work from Lewis Rankin, who worked hard all night, led to a 56th minute corner for City and there was Ricky Fletcher to bang home from twelve yards to delight the crowd of 396.

In the 63rd minute, Courtney Baker-Richardson beat the offside trap and hit a shot which cannoned off Dominic Smith and into the net for City's fourth goal but from the restart, the visitors attacked and and Scott Ryan rocketed a twenty yarder past Finch to see City now 4-2 up.

Eli Bako and Jordan Smith were thrown into the action for the final seventeen minutes.

The Sky Blues had an 80th minute corner and Baker- Richardson fired at Weaking before substitute Kaiman Anderson scored a third for Shrewsbury with a neat finish as City took the win.
