Clubs Hit By Reserves Withdrawal

Three clubs bidding to stage Coventry City Reserve team matches have been hit by the news that City Chairman Ray Ranson has pulled the team out of the Pontins League.

Bedworth United, Coventry Sphinx and Hinckley United had all shown an interest in vying to be the new home of the Sky Blues second string who have been playing at Nuneaton Borough's Liberty Way this season at a cost of £30k a year.

However, faced with further treks, the Sky Blues opted out of the league and will play training ground friendlies next season to save costs. Again, it appears that the only competitive competition the Sky Blues will enter is the Birmingham Senior Cup which the club won in May 2007.

Chris Coleman said: "Some times you can struggle to get a reserve team together because you want to protect your first team and then you are forced to play the kids too early.

"So for us, we don't need the reserve team next year and we want to concentrate solely on the first team. "Maybe if we are successful next year and are at the other end of the league, or even get into the Premier League, who knows, we might change things again
