Coventry City Manager Chris Coleman has been talking about the future of the Coventry City Academy.
The Academy came close to a down grade to a centre of excellence last season but has turned in some excellent results this year with two players making their first team debuts and two more in the first team squad for matches.
Players other than Adam Walker, Curtis Wynter, Ashley Cain and Jermaine Grandison are pushing through at all levels from the U8's upwards and that is good news for the club.
Said Coleman to the CT: "I spoke with the Chairman about the Academy and said there is no point having an Academy for the sake of it.
"If the academy is costing us money you have to say 'hold on a minute, we can't afford that', so there were some cuts last year which we had to do but it has carried on working as an academy and there are four players there, two of whom havev made their first team debuts this season which is proably more than 95% of all the other clubs which is good.
"And now we have got to see what we can do the players we have taken on; can they play for us? can they go higher? and who will we have to eventually sell on for a profit which means the Academy is working.
"As long as it is doing that, fantastic. It is when the Academy is not producing players for three or four years that it is not working. But as long as it is doing what it is, then you have to be happy with that."
