Coventry City U21's boss Ian Foster feels that there has been progression despite his side finishing bottom of the PDL League 2 North table.
The Sky Blues, who are one of two League One clubs in a ten club division along with eight Championship clubs, only managed one win all season and the 2-2 draw at Huddersfield Town on Monday afternoon, took their points tally to eight for the season.
In years gone by. the emphasis my have been on City Reserve sides winning matches but with the Sky Blues in League One, under budget/Financial Fair Play restrictions and at the start of this season a transfer embargo, the emphasis, this season and last season to some extent, has been firmly on developing players for the first team.
Speaking to Keiran Crowley, Ian Foster said: "It has been a difficult season for some of the players results wise but it is important we see the bigger picture.
"Our Under-18s players have come up into the Under-21s this season and it has given them a really good platform.
"Everything is geared towards the first-team and it was always going to be a year of transition in the Under-21s this season as the young players had a lot to learn."
