Coventry City Reserves went down to a 2-0 defeat at Port Vale.

A mad dash up the M6 until we hit traffic at junction 12 and an accident which saw two lorries go down the embankment meant we missed the first eighteen minutes of the match.

We got into the Main Stand at Vale Park, just in time to see fit again Liam Davis in a City side, that included Robert Page, get in a low 20th minute drive before the home side took the lead.

Vale pushed forward in the 26th minute down the right through Richman who cut the ball inside for Luke Chapman to sweep into the net.

Prosser and Miles were cautioned before a powerful run by Lee Hildreth played the ball inside the area for Donovan Simmonds to fire a 43rd minute shot that brought out a reaction save from the Vale custodian.

A minute later, Lee Hidreth tried his luck from 25 yards but City, who were under the cosh for the latter period of the opening half, trailed at the break.

For the second half,Steve Ogrizovic sent Jermaine Grandison up front and played Callum Burgess in the heart of defence with Robert Page.

Grandison won a couple of early corners but in the 54th minute, the League One club went further ahead thanks to a mistake in midfield leading to Richman centering for James Lawrie to rifle high into the net from sixteen yards.

Ashley Cain was sent on for Andy Gooding who stormed off down the tunnel.

The home side with Danny Glover, who was the best player on the pitch, a constant threat, continued to take the game to the Sky Blues.

Richman had a 62nd minute shot deflected for a corner. Danny Ireland, who played reasonably well, punched the ball to Richman whose half volley from the edge of the area was brilliantly blocked on the line by the body of Liam Francis.

Liam Davis was replaced after being on the wrong end of a two footed Lawrie lunge by Adam Walker and the youngster helped City to win a couple of corners.

Unfortunately, Thornton's flag kicks came to nothing and in the 81st minute, Ireland had to dive to his left to beat away a Glover drive.

This was a poor performance from the Sky Blues whose next game is at home to Stoke City on December 17th.
