Coventry City Reserves will withdraw from the Pontins League at the end of this season.
The Sky Blues, who could finish second to Champions Nottingham Forest, have said that they will play training ground friendlies instead.
The statement issued by the club is as follows:
"Coventry City can confirm that the Club will not play in a designated reserve league during the 08/09 season. Instead, the Sky Blues will play a series of friendlies with other clubs, many of whom have also withdrawn from a structured reserve league.
City Chairman Ray Ranson believes that the move is the best way forward for the Sky Blues, who currently play in the Pontin's League. "We feel that it would more beneficial for us to play friendly games, many of which would be against Midlands teams. "At present, we are often the victim of fixture congestion and it would aid the Club to organise games on our own terms."
Covsupport understands that the clubs were not happy with the league insisting on 7pm kick offs and other proposed changes including an increase of teams in the divisions by the Pontins League.
