Coventry City youngster Will Roberts had his first Wales U17 cap for playing in the 1-0 defeat to Denmark, the 1-0 defeat to Lithuania and the 4-0 defeat to Belgium back in September presented to him by City first team boss Aidy Boothroyd on Saturday.

Roberts joined City from Wrexham in the summer and impressed in friendlies before his international clearance finally arrived and had done well for City's U18's this season.

Roberts is the second member of the current U18's who has international experience, joining England U17 international Conor Thomas, whilst former U18's striker Shaun Jeffers who is currently on loan at Cheltenham Town has played for England U19's versus Slovakia.

Speaking to the club website, City U18's boss Gregor Rioch said: "We are extremely pleased for our young internationals.

"When the players go away on international duty they get a different experience which is good for their development because they come up against different styles of play from what they regularly experience in the English Academy system.

"They also learn a little bit about how to conduct themselves in order to represent themselves and the club in a positive way.

"I hope the achievements of Will, Conor and Shaun can act as an inspiration to the other youngsters in the academy by showing them what they can achieve if they put their minds to it and work hard."
