Coventry City U18's finished their Academy League season with a heavy
defeat at home to Southampton.

Greg Rioch's side, which was a mix of youth and experience had two early shots but fell behind in the ninth minute when Nile Ranger headed home from six yards after a deep Oscar Gosborn free kick.

In the sixteenth minute, the Saints, who used their height advantage well, doubled their lead when Ian Jones raced through to fire past the helpless Collett.

Adam Walker drove a shot from the penalty spot two minutes after the
goal, the visting keeper Andy Pernecky made a great save diving to his
right. When the ball came in Jacob Blackwell's header crashed against
the bar.

Lee Hildreth had started in a strong side but was forced to limp off in
the 26th minute following a crunching tackle. A minute later, Pernecky tipped over a Walker effort.

Southampton relied on the counter attack or set peice for their forays into the Sky Blue half and it was a free kick which led to their third goal in the 38th minute.

A long free kick was met by the head of the biggest player on the pitch,
Ryan Hazoli who looped the ball into the net from close range.

With the City support staring at each other in disbelief, Kayne McWaggon
turned inside the area and finished with a low drive for a fourth goal.

Greg Rioch urged his side to do better at the break and sent on Robert Ogleby, who has scored on 17 occasions for the U16's this season. The striker delivered a stunning cross from the right to Sean Jeffers who had also come on at the break.

Unfortunately, Jeffers was not able to get his effort on target and the chance went begging. Ogleby missed just after the hour mark as the Sky Blues started to spend more and more time in the Saints half.

Late on,Matty West was denied what looked a penalty but although City had improved, the damage had long been done and Southampton were easy
winners.
