Coventry City U18's played well but went down to a 3-1 defeat at Aston Villa.
Greg Rioch and Richie Stevens named a mixed side which included reserve teamers Liam Francis,Lee Hildreth and Donovan Simmonds.
The home side scored the opening goal on a chilly morning at Bodymoor Heath in the eleventh minute when a stunning right footed shot from Marc Albrighton flew into the net off Collett's left hand post.
City were forced to look for the counter attack and in the 19th minute, nearly equalised when Simmonds flicked on a Marshall cross for Ashley Cain to drive over.
In the 37th minute, the Sky Blues were level thanks to a route one goal. Callum Burgess superbly sent a long ball forward and there was Donovan Simmonds on the edge of the area. As Elliott Parish came out,Simmonds lobbed the ball over him and into the net.
Four minutes in the second half,Villa against the run of play, went back in front. Jermaine Grandison's defensive header only went as far as Coventry based James Collins who volleyed in to the bottom corner from sixteen yards.
The goal lifted the home side and put pressure on the City defence. Keeper
Neil Collett made two good reaction saves and a third from a 76th corner after Villa had hit the bar.
City were always looking for an equaliser and nearly got it nine minutes from time when Simmonds header from a Cain cross scraped the bar.
However,in the 85th minute, Harry Forrester made the most of a lapse and drove home from eight yards to give to give Villa a flattering score-line.
