Coventry Sphinx Reserves were beaten 3-2 at Bromsgrove Rovers in a Midland Combination Reserve Division fixture this afternoon.
Battling Sphinx Reserves Beaten
Danny McSheffrey's side battled well in the opening half despite losing Gary Mead to a knock to his knee.
The Sphinx defence contained Bromgrove to good effect and in one sustained spell of pressure, keeper Dale Rumble produced a brilliant save to deny a home forward.
Sphinx broke upfield. Substitute Andy Moran played a one two with Luke Hopkins who got to the byline and and banged over a 41st minute ball which Moran flicked into the net.
The league leaders were level two minutes into the second half through a sublime 23 yard drive from Sam Beasley and went ahead when an error by Leon Simmons allowed Chris Bright to nip inside the six yard box and score from point blank range.
Sphinx hit back and had three bites at the cherry before Declan Doherty sent a stunning lob over a crowded penalty area and into the top corner to draw Sphinx level in the 63rd minute.
Unfortunately, an error six minutes later saw Substitute Phil Allen score and give Bromsgrove who finished the game with ten men, a victory when a draw was definitely the fairest result.
