Coventry Sphinx manager Luke Hopkins has said that he will make changes after his side were beaten 4-1 at Quorn on Saturday.
Speaking about Sphinx’s first defeat of the season, Hopkins told the Sphinx website: “Coming off the back of a half successful week, we were away at Quorn and all knew it was going to be a tough place to go.
“We tried to learn some lessons from last year where it was 0-0 at half time and 4-0 down after 50 minutes. We set up with a defensive shape and for the first fifteen minutes it was working. We were countering their attacking shape and their set patterns of play and it was only a mistake that allowed Quorn in for their first goal.
“We had had plenty of half chances but nothing seemed to be coming off and at 1-0 down, I thought that we were the better team and looking like if we got one, more would follow with the chances coming our way.
Their second goal came on a counter attack with the striker allowed to turn inside the penalty area and score with a good finish to make it 2-0 before half time.
“We made changes at half time and also further changes, ten minutes in the second half, going three up top with Ricky Cutting and Chris Gummery coming on.
“Straight away, we had chances and they weren’t put away. But with three up top and three at the back, it opened the game up.
“I would rather lose 4-1 pushing for something at 2-0 nil down than settle for a 2-0 loss.
“Luke Downes got our goal and three in three is not a bad return for any player at this level and positives were youingster Jack Downes coming on and putting in a good twenty five minute performance.
“Quorn added two goals in sloppy fashion without heart and that’s what I can’t accept, never have and never will.
“We are lucky that we have a chance to put things right tonight against Shepshed at Sphinx Drive and on Saturday in the FA Cup, a competition we did well in last season.
“Changes will be made tonight and hopefully two new faces will be in.”
