Coventry Sphinx put in an excellent team performance to gain a 0-0 draw at Coalville Town.

Danny McSheffrey gave a debut to Stephen Evans who joined from Quorn FC and had Lee Wilson in goal for this trip to Owen Street, to face a highly fancied Coalville Town side.

Sphinx took on a Town side that included former Sphinx midfielder Callum Woodward and most of the play in the opening quarter was in the Sphinx half with Lee Wilson making a terrific 11th minute block with his legs after Matty Moore got into the area.

Wilson made a one handed save from Moore, following a 31st minute free kick as Sphinx's back four including the impressive Danny Fraser and Jamie McAteer worked hard to keep the home side out.

Sphinx, with Evans, Ruff and Stevenson, all trying to get the team going forward, needed a goal and in the 35th and 37th minute, Kelvin Phillips twice had the ball in the net but much to the disgust of the Sphinx bench, both goals were ruled out.

With Sphinx's FA Cup opponents Hinckley United having their manager watching on, a stoppage time looping ball into the mix from Evans, caused the home keeper to flap but it was enough to widen the angle and prevent Phillips from getting the touch he wanted.

Sphinx won two corners at the start of the second half and Phillips fired over on the hour mark as Sphinx kept things tight in all departments.

Both sides created little as the match reached its conclusion and it was Sphinx who were far by the happier with the point from this game.
