Coventry Sphinx slipped to a 3-0 defeat away at Continental Star on Saturday and manager Luke Hopkins felt that “Missed chances came back to haunt his side.
Hopkins was forced to make changes to the team at the last minute as he found a number of players unavailable and one change was in goal with the Sphinx Under 16’s keeper Callum Brown making his debut,
Luke was quick to praise Callum and said to the Sphinx website: “He came in after our other keepers were unavailable and was brilliant. He made some superb saves and wasn't really at fault with any of the goals and even saved a penalty. Continental Star also awarded him their Opposition Man of the Match and I thank him for stepping in. He’s certainly one to watch in the future”.
Sphinx went 1-0 down in the first half and Hopkins found it a poor goal to concede, saying: “It was the only time that Continental Star went forward and that gave them some confidence. They went on to have a few other chances but good saves and poor finishing left it 1-0 at half time but we were well in the game”.
Sphinx came out a much improved side in the second half and Hopkins said: “We came out and had a bit more about us and made eight good chances but we hit the bar and the post and suffered from a bit of poor finishing to be honest. I expected that we would have taken two or three of the chances at least and then the game would have had a different balance.
"But we went in search of a point and the game naturally opened up and Continental Star got two goals with counter attacks.
“Overall there were some positives and some negatives. We move on to next week at home where we need points to stay away from the bottom three”.
