Alvechurch with goals from James Robbins and Jack Cudworth in a hard fought 2-1 win.
On a sun drenched but cold afternoon Danny McSheffrey's had to make 3 changes to the line up that played so well against Dunkirk with Bilic coming in for Rhodes who returned to Bedworth Utd, Cudworth came in for the unavailable Williams and Stevenson replaced the injured Paul Saunders.
The game was played at a frantic pace with no one from both teams prepared to slow the game down. Junior Williams was again causing problems with his pace and running with the ball and is starting to grow into the level he is playing at, Cudworth was his ram busting self winning headers and giving the Alvechurch centre halves a hard time. Defensively Sphinx looked sound for the first 45 minutes.
Sphinx opened the scoring when the ever improving James Robbins swung in a corner that seemed to go directly in but Williams claimed the ball came off his back.
Sphinx had further chances to increase there lead when Williams low cross into the box was met by the onrushing Cudworth whose left footed effort went wide. Hopkins was released by a long ball out of defence but he rushed his shot and blazed over.
Alvechurch were to have the last say in the half when Ross Dempster linked up with Charisma Abonglahor playing a cute one two before shooting past Carl O'Neill's right hand post.
Alvechurch came out in the second half all guns blazing and were level within 30 seconds of the restart when Ross Dempster latched on to a cross from the left to shoot past O'Neill who had done well to get a hand to the ball but could not prevent it from crossing the line.
Sphinx then endured a good 10 minutes of pressure from Alvechurch who in that period hit the bar and squandered two further chances.
McSheffrey made a change on 60 minutes with Youth Team forward Tom Rawlings replacing Luke Hopkins up front. It was not long before Rawlings was in on the action when he set up Adam Bilic for an easy tap in but the Referee' s Asst deemed Rawlings offside.
Cudworth then went close when he flicked the ball over the defenders head before trying to bend the ball in the top corner with the keeper well beaten. Rawlings then played a big part in the Sphinx second and ultimately winning goal. He received the ball out wide on the left turned his marker inside out before crossing a peach of ball to the back post where Cudworth rose to
smash a head back across the keeper on 68 minutes.
There was a tense and frantic last 20 minutes with both sides having chances to score. But Sphinx held on to record their first win since November away at Biddulph and the relief was there for all to see.
Hopefully Sphinx can build on this win and claim another three points when they travel to Oadby Town on Tuesday night.
