Coventry Sphinx manager Luke Hopkins has given his thoughts on the last two Sphinx matches.
Starting with the 4-3 victory over Ellistown and Ibstock United in the FA Vase, Hopkins told the Sphinx website: "A win is a win.
"We played some good football in the first half and with winning 3 penalties the game should have been put to bed. However, missing two penalties isn't a good ratio but we created other chances and I don’t think anyone would have been surprised if it was 7 or 8 at half time. That would have been game done.
"The second half was a big contrast. We stopped playing to the game plan and it showed and we allowed them in. Literally, it was a game of two halves, but once we got back to the plan it was 4-2 and Ellistown had their tails up and a worldie strike made the game look closer than what it was. Ideally, we stick to the game plan and we don’t get drawn into a battle for the last 10 minutes, but we did and we dealt with it.
"Like I said, a win is a win and with it being after a few defeats and in the FA Vase I think you just take them as you can and into the next round on the 31st October at Home against Black Country Rangers".
Sphinx were in action again on Monday evening with a tie in the Birmingham Senior Cup v Banbury Utd. After taking the lead in the 50th minute through Lewis Rankin, Sphinx conceded two in three minutes to see Banbury sealing the victory and progressing to the next round.
Hopkins said: "Against Banbury, we played some great stuff and created some great chances but this did bite us on the bottom.
"We could have had 2 or 3 at half time and this would have allowed us to shut up shop if needed, but it wasn’t to be.
"Lewis Rankin got the goal which was well worked by the lads. I'm happy for them as they spent hours working on bits and bobs and alot came off in the game.
"We did look tired from 80 minutes onwards but two big cup games in 3 days takes it's toll.
So, we'll rest for a couple of days and be back in training on Thursday for a valuable couple of hours together, working on more.
"It's coming together, I just hope its not too too late for a good push pre Christmas. I'm not happy to lose, as this Cup was the first I had a good run in as a manager, so I have a soft spot for it, but very happy with the performance and I was defintely more happy with the team display from the Banbury game than the win on Saturday.
"We go again on Saturday away at Rocester which is always a tough place to go".
