Coventry Sphinx are to become the non-league club of Coventry City FC.

The deal sees a change in Sphinx's Midland Alliance fixtures whereby if the Sky Blues are at home then Sphinx will be away and vice versa. It is hoped that this will encourage more supporters to watch both sides.

Sphinx start their league season with a trip to to Tipton Town on Saturday followed by another trip to Stratford on Tuesday night. Their first home game is an FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tie against Barwell on August 16th whilst City are at Barnsley.

A friendly in September between the two sides is also being arranged.

Sphinx chairman and lifelong Coventry City fan Neil Long is delighted with the co-operation, saying in a press statement: "With each of the 350-plus people connected to the club being keen supporters of the Sky Blues, to work so closely together will prove to be very beneficial to both clubs.

"We get comments from many people saying that if home games didn't clash they would love to support both teams so this will allow them to watch non league football as well as supporting the City at the Ricoh Arena.

City Director Joe Elliott told the club website: "It is in everybody's interests to work together and with a friendly fixture arrange to mark our new link-up with Sphinx, it would be nice to think that plenty of our fans will get behind them whenever possible this season."
