Coventry Sphinx went nap tonight with a 5-1 pre-season victory at Dunlop.

Danny McSheffrey changed the team which had beaten Lichfield on Saturday and on a wet night at Daimler Green in Radford, his side took the lead in the 12th minute when Jerome Murdock burst through to score with a neat finish.

Dunlop levelled six minutes later when an attacker raced through and collided with keeper Scott Furlong after heading the ball towards the goal.

Sphinx were back in front in the 36th minute as Murdock was blocked by the keeper and Luke Hopkins stroked home from six yards.

two goal hero Luke Hopkins (9)

Hopkins had three more chances before making it 3-1 in the 51st minute when he lobbed the keeper from 30 yards.

Capitalising on their superiority, Sphinx had more chances but it was not until the 72nd minute that Mark Smith got the last touch to score following a scramble from a corner.

Six minutes from time, a good performance from Sphinx was wrapped up when Paul Green was pulled down inside the area and Callum Woodward smacked home the resulting penalty.

Sphinx travel to Campion School in Warwick to play Massey Ferguson on Saturday
