Coventry Sphinx 10-0 Tipton Town.
Coventry Sphinx recorded their biggest ever win in the Midland Football League Premier Division with a 10-0 thrashing of Tipton Town.
The Black Country side arrived following the departure of their manager and a host of players, forcing them to field a number of youth team players, plus four players they managed to sign on the night. Add to this, traffic problems delaying their arrival and it was obvious that it was not going to be their night.
Sphinx, who fielded a changed side from the team that had lost at Lye Town, were straight on the attack and were ahead in less than five minutes when Chris Gumery scored from a Rickie Cutting cross.
Two minutes later and a Cutting lob which was pushed over by Ryan Hall for a corner that was finished off by an Ashley Jackson header for his fourth goal in four games.
Jackson sent a header over and had a twenty yarder pushed round for a corner before Sphinx were three goals up when Rickie Cutting rounded the keeper.
In the eighteenth minute, Sphinx attacked again and the ball fell to Luke Downes who was thirty yards out when he sent a lob over Hall and into the net.
Luke Hopkins side continued to press and a great cross from Lewis Bishop was headed home by Chris Gumery for his second of the match.
Hall had to be replaced in the 32nd minute due to be ill and his replacement Karl Frankham made some good saves before Rickie Cutting volleyed in for the sixth following a 48th minute corner.
Cutting completed his hat-trick in the 58th minute when he rounded Frankham before the pacy forward, who was a right handful all night was replaced in the 66th minute.
It was eight in the 69th minute when Sphinx launched a raid down the right and Kiam Galdins lashed home with a low drive.
Frankham made a couple of saves but in the 87th minute, Chris Gumery, gave him no chance when he completed his hat-trick with a twenty five yarder from a free kick.
Thirty seconds later and the ball was played to Gumery yet again who slipped the ball past Frankham for his fourth goal of the game and Sphinx's tenth goal in their biggest win at Step Five level.
The Tipton players looked totally dejected but they were sportingly applauded off by the Sphinx support and club officials, who will be back watching the team against Heath Hayes at Sphinx Drive on Saturday.
