Coventry Sphinx Youth were held to a 3-3 draw by Alvechurch at Sphinx Drive tonight.
Neil Moran and Steve Shea's side got off to the perfect startt when Dave Freeman colly finished with less than a minute gone.
The action continued with Danny Barlow hitting the bar two minutes later. In the tenth minute, it was all square. Sphinx Keeper Dave Allen came out to kick the ball away but could only get a swipe at it and then watch helplessly as the ball went under his foot and rolled into the empty net.
Two minutes later and Sphinx were back in front through a low drive from Danny Barlow.
Back came Alvechurch who got themselves level when a ball into the box in the 22nd minute was not cleared and a striker came in,to blast into the net.
Six minutes before the interval, Anthony Bevas, who had been involved with both of the Sphinx goals, got on the scoresheet with a good finish to send Sphinx into the break with a 3-2 lead.
it was a lead that lasted three minutes into stoppage time at the end of the second half.
Sphinx had had all the play but not put away their chances. Suddenly, a hand met the ball and the resulting penalty was duly dispatched to give both sides a point.
Next week, it is FA Youth Cup action for Sphinx Youth who travel to Walsall Wood.
