Coventry Sphinx beat Continental Star 5-2 this afternoon in an MFL Premier Division fixture.

At a cold and wet Sphinx Drive, Sphinx with manager Robbie Banks playing in midfield were lively in the opening exchanges.

Lewis Rankin went close in the ninth minute and four minutes later, worked to set Mitch Thomson to fire home from ten yards.

Star equalised in the 19th minute when Darren Green got down the right and fired home but in the 27th minute, Mitch Thomson, the Sphinx Skipper got through and slipped the ball into the net to put Sphinx back in front.

Rankin headed just wide on the half hour mark before he had to limp off.

On the stroke of half time, Mitch Thomson raced through to complete his hat-trick and then scored a fourth with a lovely finish.

Four minutes into the second half and Keiran Nesbitt ran and slotted the ball into the net.

Sphinx controlled the play but were unable to add to their tally whilst Star scored a second through Daniel Helgate who scored in the 89th minute with a smart finish.
