Alvis Sporting celebrated Non League day last Saturday by maintaining their one hundred per cent Midland League record after defeating Barnt Green Spartak by one goal to nil.
Playing only their second league game of the season at their Green Lane headquarters, Alvis scored the all important winning goal after 20 minutes when Dildale Linton threaded the ball to Aaron Cooke who neatly netted from 15 yards.
Alvis should have added to the scoreline with six minutes remaining, when Linton was upended in the penalty area, but joint leading goal scorer, Tommy Maguire, missed from the spot kick with a low shot just wide of the post.
Alvis manager Damian Cassidy said "We wasted to many chances today against tough physical opponents, and our midfield was also a little off key. On the positive side, however, we have not conceded a league goal since August, and I was most impressed by the all round performance and competent display of our 17 year old defender, Callum Drake, who was deservedly our man of the match".
Alvis Sporting travel to Hampton in a league fixture on Saturday.
