Dale Belford is the new manager of Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One South side Rugby Town.

Belford replaces  Gary Mills, who resigned last week, at Butlin Road.

Belford will be assisted by Steve Farmer while son Courtney will be the club's new goalkeeper coach.

"I am grateful for the opportunity at a good club like Rugby," said Belford, who was speaking to the Tamworth Herald.

"I actually played for Rugby a long time ago, when I joined on loan from Notts County. I played under Jimmy Knox, who was a fantastic guy and someone I learnt a lot off.

"There are a lot of good people at the club and I am looking forward to the challenge. No-one will work harder than myself to get things right at the club.

"It's just great to be back involved in football," he added. "After Tamworth. I needed a break from the game, if I am honest.

"I had absolutely fantastic times with the Lambs but it takes a lot out of you and I needed a break.

"I am raring to go again now though. I feel re-energised.

"As I say, Rugby are a good club with great facilities and the board are really nice with realistic ambitions for the club.

"The short-term aim has simply got to be about us climbing the league table, improving where we are at.

"Long term, we obviously want to get the club challenging again.

"We will have a look at things and see what we need to do. The players here will have an opportunity to stake their claim to stay at the club as there is quality here.

"It will be a challenge for us but I am looking forward to it."
