Coventry Market, Britain's Favourite market-
A celebration day 28th July 2010.
(Incorporating the national, "Making Market Matters Road Show")
Coventry Market is Britain's Favourite market of course, and it didn't get that title by just being ordinary, it got it because it knows how to relate to its customers and it knows how to give a shopping experience second to none. However while it's taking care of all the serious stuff, it also knows how to have fun. So when you read the words 'Coventry Market' and 'celebration' in the same sentence, it's fair to assume something a little special is brewing.
That's why the date 28th July should be put in everyone's diary; it's a day that promises to be 'A market load of fun' from beginning to end. The day is a celebration of winning the Britain's Favourite Market award, and will incorporate the National Market Trader's Federation Road Show; the two events will join to provide a host of family fun, a day not to be missed.
Within the market there will be a packed day of entertainment, including street entertainers, living statues, clowns, stilt walkers, balloon modellers. An exotic animal zoo, face painting, 'spin it to win it' competitions, a prize draw, giveaways, plus and a chance to guess the combination of the market safe worth £500.
If that's not enough for you, you can also try your hand at giant Scalextric racing with certificates and fantastic prizes for race winners and a mystery guest appearance will add to the excitement.
Outside in the Precinct a giant road show that promotes market shopping nationally, will be open from 10.00am. It's here where Master Chef Geoff Tookey will be showing you how to make some exciting meals with fresh market produce. Geoff is a one-man show, and his engaging showmanship, his delicious free tasters and his expert culinary advice, will really get the message across to people of the benefits of supporting their local markets. Geoff creates some unforgettable mouth-watering recipes from fresh fish, meat, vegetables and fruits sold on the market that day.
Not only a cookery demonstrator, Geoff is the Managing Director of a food hygiene consultancy Safefoods Solutions Ltd, he's also a member of the British Culinary Federation and a Fellow of the World Master Chef's Society. He has over thirty-five years experience in top hotels and restaurants, even cooking for HRH the Queen Elizabeth and the royal family.
The road show also has prize pods, children's games, information stands and giveaways.
The event will be opened by Councillor Linda Bigham, Cabinet Member for City Development, who had this to say about the event, "I'm really looking forward to opening the celebration day. Coventry Market is unique and this event will give everyone the opportunity to experience the market and all it offers whilst having lots of fun at the same time"
