Coventry Market has dominated city life for over 50 years.
It was officially opened by Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra of Kent on November 4th 1958. Believed to be the only 'round' market of its kind in Europe, its circular uniqueness only adds to its charm.
Its regular events and promotions saw it win Market Of The Year in 2007 and it was immortalised in the BBC Coventry & Warwickshire produced, "Coventry Market, The Musical". Not content having its own musical; it can now boast its very own book!
Written by Coventry Kid Pete Chambers, Coventry Market In A Round About Way is exclusively released in the Market on December 18th. "It's not a straight history of the Market", explains Pete,
"It's written about the people who made, and indeed who continue to make this place the fascinating icon it is. Traders and the shopper alike all have fascinating stories to tell, some funny, some touching some plain bonkers. The Markets tag line is "All Kinds Of Everything", and think that applies to this book too".
The book is on sale for £6.99 at branches of Waterstones and on the heritage stall in Coventry Market.
