On 10th - 13th September, around 26 venues around Coventry will be participating in the nationwide Heritage Open Days weekend.
The weekend is completely free of charge to members of the public with the participating venues offering free access to areas that are either closed to the public or where they normally charge for admission. Some of the highlights for this year's event include a meet and greet with historical characters in Coombe Country Park, guided tours of the Herbert's mediaeval cellar, brass rubbing in Drapers Hall, Wattle and Daub demonstrations at Coventry Watch Museum and live musical performances over the weekend from traditional mediaeval group 'Blast from the Past'. A whole host of children's activities have also been organised, ranging from a Grow and Cook workshop at Allesley Park Walled Garden to face painting in Holy Trinity Church. Accredited tour guides will be leading walking tours around Coventry city centre to the local places of interest. The tours, which are all free, depart at 11:30am and 2:30pm each day from the Tourist Information Centre (TIC) in the Cathedral Ruins. There will also be a variety of guided tours including the Cathedral, Priory Undercrofts and the Heritage Bus Tours.
