The Godiva Festival due to have started today in the Memorial Park in Coventry has been cancelled.
Mud was the reason given for the three day festival being called off on Friday morning.
City Council Deputy George Duggins told the CT: "It is a mudbath. The conclusion was it was dangerous generally. Anywhere where vehicles had gone onto the site was churning up.
"There was lots of water inside the tents too.
"We've taken the decision on the basis of recommendations from people who are experts in the field. Ultimately, the decision has got to be the responsibility of me and John Mutton.
"It was in doubt from Wednesday, but we wanted to give it every opportunity, and people were still working till 10.30pm last night trying to catch up, as the organisers had been falling behind due to the weather."
