Four more icons of the Coventry Music Scene were honoured today at 2-Tone Village at the Coventry Music Wall Of Fame plaque unveiling ceremony.
The ceremony, which came from an idea by Pete Chambers, drew a big crowd and saw MC Brody Swain introudce speakers Cllr Tony Skipper and Pete Clemons of the steering committee.
The following were inducted on the Coventry Music Wall Of Fame
Aitch Bembridge whose plaque was sponsored by Cliff Evans, is the original drummer with the Selecter and has been part of The Specials set-up, and has drummed for the legendary Desmond Dekker as well as the AllSkaa
The late Beverley Jones, whose plaqued was sponsored by Craig Melia & Darren Wheldon, was gifted with a superbly powerful singing voice. She was the first female artist from Coventry to release a single, releasing three in the early 1960's and one on Parophone with The Prestons. She was represented by Darren Wheldon and Kelly.
The Sorrows whose plaque was sponsored by Pete Clemons, were the first Coventry band to make a mark in the 1960’s. Fronted by Don Fardon the band hit the charts in 1965 with “Take A Heart”. A number of former and present members including inductee Roger Lomas were present.
Dave Swarbrick whose plaque was sponsored by Joshua James Pilling, was a core member of Fairport Convention and is a 'Gold Badge of Merit' winner awarded by the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters.
