Nuneaton Chairman Wants Supporters In Numbers

Nuneaton Town Chairman Lee Thorn has urged supporters to turn up to matches.

Nuneaton, whose James Parnall Stadium is not the easiest ground to get to for those who don't have access to a car, have struggled for gates this season and speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, Thorn said: : “I heard there was a great local support for Nuneaton Town but have not seen any of it. Gates are slowly whittling away and now that our neighbours have returned back to the Ricoh I am struggling to see how they will improve.

“When we played Aldershot the attendance was 803, 116 of which were away fans, so that makes 687 home supporters.

“The players deserve better. We are now playing some good football. The team were clearly not getting the previous arrangements but they stuck together and saw it through, and we are now turning negatives into positives, starting with Liam’s appointment.

“The gate receipts will have a big impact on the future; I have a crystal clear five-year sustainable vision for this club for all to see and everything is easily achievable through hard work and support.

“We cannot change the past but we can do something about the future if we all work hard.

“We have now appointed a positive manager who gave 100% in his playing career and the same can also be said in his managerial career.

“I would like our fans to give 100-per-cent too and help us to achieve the five-year plan. The club needs to progress on and off the pitch and this can only happen with the support of the paying fans, other stadium revenue and streamlining expenditure.

”Off the pitch, the club plan to turn the three acres of land the club owns on the other side of the river into a training area with a small-sided pitch being part of this development with and for the community, in conjunction with local colleges.

“I am happy to back us but I need more assurances.

“I need to see the gates improving as the team improves; I need to know the truth why the fans aren’t supporting their local club. Less than 0.8% of the local population is coming to watch our games this season.

“Nuneaton was pulling in gates of 1200-plus three years ago on their way to many promotions but during the start of this season attendances have hovered at around the 800-mark.

“I can assure you that the fans are being listened to as we strive to improve things on and off the pitch.”
