Australians Brett Lancaster and Matthew Goss were stage winners today.

Stage Two of the Tour of California from Davis to Santa Rosa brought out the rain and meant there was no television coverage.

A five man break was hauled back with 22km to go and a 25 man group formed. This included the likes of Lance Armstong, Levi Leipheimer, Michael Rogers, Andy Schleck, Jens Voigt, and Peter Sagen.

Britain's Mark Cavendish, who won yesterday's opening stage, was in a group with a number of sprinters in the main peleton. Some riders chased the main group down and got to 45 seconds behind but with the weather conditions not helping them, the leading group headed for the line.

Carvelo Test Team's Brett Lancaster was first over the line for his first win since August 2008 and this gave him the leaders Pink jersey with Peter Sagan in second.

Tuesday's third stage is from San Francisco to Santa Cruz.

HTC Colombia's Matt Goss win the ninth stage of the Giro d'Italia today. The Australian was first over the line in a bunch sprint at the finish of the 187km stage in Cava de Terreni.

Speaking to the HTC Colombia Press office, HTC Sports Director Tristian Hoffman said: "There was a four-rider breakaway but we made very sure that we kept them at a manageable distance.

"The weather was really bad at times, sometimes the streets were like rivers and that made it a lot harder.  However, our goal was always to get a bunch sprint, and even though we had no support from other teams and had to work like crazy, the team did a brilliant job today. In the final kilometre Matt took his chance. It was a difficult bunch sprint, slightly uphill and with some unexpected faces in the mix, but he came through just fine.  We've been pushing hard for a stage win here in the Giro, and today we got it."
