Coventry’s Steve Beaton was absolutely disgusted with the way he performed during his first round exit at William Hill PDC World Darts Championship on Saturday at Alexandra Palace, London, writes Ziad Chaudry.
The 50-year-old former BDO world champion from Coventry suffered a humiliating 3-0 drubbing to Nottingham-based Australian Kyle Anderson.
It was sweet revenge for Anderson who lost on Beaton in similar circumstances during his world championship debut two years ago.
Meanwhile Beaton’s poor record in his 14-year PDC world championships appearances continues. Despite once reaching the third and fourth round, the Coventry City FC fan has struggled to advance past the early hurdles.
At last year’s event he suffered yet another shocking first round exit to South Africa’s Devon Peterson.
“I’ve got this big failure about the world championship, I don’t know why,” said a dejected Beaton.
“Back stage I was hitting everything but when I go on the stage I was absolutely useless.
“I can play great on the floor and great exhibitions but I don’t know why over there.
“I think it’s a Christmas thing. It happens every year. I never actually sat at home and enjoyed Christmas.
“It’s a bit demoralising but I’ll never give in.
“Tonight that was absolutely pants, I’m disgusted with myself!”
