Coventry Blaze Ice Hockey Team won their opening IIHF Continental Cup Group C game 7-2 this afternoon.
Against Dunarea Galati in Tychy, Poland and watched by good numbers of Blaze fans, Coventry took the lead when Cale Tanaka scored, assisted by Brett Robinson on 6.52.
On 12.06, Tanaka scored again, this time, assisted by Neil Trimm and Ashley Tait for the Blaze who face Partizan Belgrade tomorrow and hosts GKS Tychy on Sunday.
Two minutes and twelve seconds into the second period with the Blaze on the powerplay, Neil Trimm scored a third goal, assisted by Tait and Jim Jorgensen and that was followed by Cale Tanaka, completing his hat-trick with a goal on 23.20, assisted by Ross Venus and Boris Valabik and Neil Trimm netting a fifth delayed penalty goal on 33.09.
In the third period, Ned Lukacevic make it 6-0 when he netted on 42.22, assisted by Russ Cowley and Carl Lauzon.
Dunarea pulled a goal back on 48.36 though Robert Kracji on the powerplay and Vitali Dunika scored a second past Renny Marr on 54.43 but in the final minute, the Blaze fans were in seventh heaven when Brett Robinson scored a seventh goal, assisted by Cale Tanaka and Neil Trimm.
