BMC won the Vuelta a España time trial to continue a super week for the Swiss based team.
The opening stage was a 7.4km course from Pueto Banus which had to be neutralised as it was seen a dangerous by many riders including Chris Froome of Team Sky.
MTN Qhubeka were the first down ramp and clocked a time of 8.40 before LottoNL-Jumbo set a good time of 8.18.
That lasted until Orica GreenEdge finished seven seconds quicker and the Australia team stayed in the lead until Tinkoff Saxo finished half a second quicker.
BMC went fifth from last and they finished in 8.10 to take the stage which will count towards the team prize but not the overall general classification.
Tejay Van Garderen said about his team's victory: “Being world champions, that gives us a certain responsibility to put it out on the line and go for it,.
“The tactic that we had was perfect. On a course like this you can’t really go much faster with more than five guys so we picked five guys to bring it to the end and we had three guys to line it out from the start and do a one kilo effort full gas and pull off. Then the five guys at the end hammered it to the line. To be honest, I don’t remember much of it, it went by so quickly. We’re super happy with the win and I couldn’t be happier for Peter Velits to take the jersey."
