Chris Boardman has said that he is disappointed by the lack of British riders who will be competing in the Tour De France this year.
The 2014 race which starts in Leeds on Saturday sees only Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas of Team Sky, Simon Yates of Orica GreenEdge and Mark Cavendish of Omega Pharma Quick Step entered in a race which has seen up a number of British riders feature including Sir Bradley Wiggins who won the 2012 race.
Wiggins is probably the most famous omission from the race but it is disappointing that British crowds will not get to see the likes of David Millar, Alex Dowsett, British Champion Peter Kennaugh and Ben Swift as well as Birmingham born but Irish racing licence holder Dan Martin involved.
Boardman, who is one of six Brits to wear a yellow jersey, told the BBC: "It is disappointing how many British riders we've got in the peloton."
Ireland will have one representative in Nicholas Roche of TInkoff Saxo.
