Cadel Evans has won the Tirreno Adriatico.
The seventh and final stage finished with a 9.3km Individual Time Trial around San Benedetto del Tronto on the Adriatic coast.
Olivier Kaisen of Omega Pharma-Lotto was the first rider to start today and he finished a very flat course in a time of 11:47.
There had been good money on Swiss rider Fabian Cancellera to win this stage and the Leopard Trek rider did not disappoint, flying through the course in a time of 10:33.
Rabbobank's Lars Boom came in nine seconds down on Cancellera's time, after Mark Cavendish had come in at 11.5 and Steve Cummings had come in at 11.05.
Race Leader Cadel Evans took to the road at 2.52pm, knowing he had to preserve a nine second lead.
Nibali who was 21 seconds down on Evans came in at 11.13, Young Rider of the race Robert Gesink finished in a time of 11.00.
Ivan Basso was twelve seconds back and finished in a time of 11.16.whilst Michele Scarponi had a poor ride and finished in 11.10, meaning that Evans had to finish in a time of better than 11.15.
The grimace was on the face of Evans but the Austrlain pulled it out of the bag and finished in a time of 11.04 to give him the 46th Tirreno-Adriatico title and the stage win to Fabian Cancellera.
Evans won Neptune's Trident which was delivered by a coastguard in a special ceremony.
