Mark Cavendish will compete in the Revolution Series at Derby Velodrome this weekend.
The Etixx Quick Step rider will compete in the UCI class one event which allows British riders a chance of getting points that will help them qualifty for the Olympic Games.
Cavendish will compete in the Omnium event which takes place this weekend and told Cycling Weekly: “I’m looking forward to getting back on track and trying the Omnium.
“I’ve always maintained that my focus is my performances on the road as a professional rider for Etixx-Quick Step. However if there was any chance, however small, that I could be in a position to go for an Olympic medal in Rio then I have to keep all of my options open.
“No definitive decisions have been made yet. So I will try to do this through picking up qualification points in the Omnium fitted around my road racing schedule. The Omnium is a tough event with all the different disciplines so Derby will be a good test and we’ll see how things progress from there.”
Sir Bradley Wiggins will also compete in the event which has four sessions with the Team Pursuit and Keirin on Friday evening, the mens and women's omnium from 11.15am to 5.15pm on Saturday, the Omnium, Individual Pursuit, Revolution Longest Lap from 7pm to 10pm on Saturday and the Omnium, Sprint Finals, Madison on Sunday from 12noon until 6pm.
