IAM Cycling's Sylvain Chavanel has won the GP Ouest France-Plouay.
A 229.1km World Tour race in Brittany attracted some big names including World Road Race Champion Rui Costa and 2012 Tour De France winner Sir Bradley Wiggins of Team Sky.
Wiggins was not in the the first break which saw Koch, Lecuisinier, Bideau, Van Melsen and Pirazzi go clear.
With 60kms to go and the gap now down to fifty four seconds, Koch attacked from the break. He was brought back and Van Melsen of Topsport tried his luck but with 46 kilometres left, the peloton had regrouped on a sunny day.
Omega Pharma Quick Step's Michael Kwiatkowski started a new attack and was joined by Durasek, Lars Peder Nordhaug, Ben Hermans, Tim Wellens, Tulik & Chris Juul Jensen.
Thry had a lead of just over thirty seconds with eighteen kilometres left as Bardiani led the charge on the front of the peloton.
As the riders started a final fourteen kilometre lap in Plouay, the escapers were 34 seconds ahead as they started on the Cote de Lezur.
Tim Wellens launched two attacks but Kwiatkowski was marking every attack.
Angelo Tullik of Europcar was able to get a few seconds away but Marcus Berghardt of BMC was drilling it on the final climb.
With 3.7kms, everyone was back together and Nicholas Roche of TInkoff Saxo but the Irishman was soon followed and Cyril Gautier of Europcar attacked with 2.3kms left
Seven riders were on the front going into the final two kilometres including IAM Cycling's Sylvain Chavanel, Hermans and Tullik.
Onto the finish line and Hermans went but it was Sylvain Chavanel, the 35 year old Frenchman who took the win ahesd of Fedi, Vichot, Gautier and Alaphillipe.
"This is a race that I like," Chavanel said. "I had to wait and looked at the other riders in the final kilometre and did what I had to do to win. I was a bit worried but I decided to go and it is an amazing day and great preparation for the World Championships."
