Coventry Bees captain Chris Harris is due weather permitting to make his farewell Elite League appearance for the club on Friday.
The long-serving Harris, who first rode for the Buildbase Bees way back in 2004 and has won three league titles at Brandon, has submitted a written transfer request, citing that he wishes for a change of club next season.
He will line up as skipper for the final time as the Bees take on King’s Lynn, having spent a total of eleven years with the club.
The only seasons he missed since his initial move from Peterborough were 2011, when he was loaned to Belle Vue at a time when Coventry’s participation in the league was in doubt due to the ‘winter of discontent.’
He then made a local loan move to Birmingham in 2013 but returned to lead the Bees to the Elite League Grand Final the following year.
Coventry promoter Mick Horton said: “Chris has sent me a very nicely worded letter expressing his wish to move on next year.
“He clearly feels that at this stage of his career it’s time for a change, and we as a club accept that.
“Chris been here a very long time and he has had a phenomenal career with Coventry, which I’m sure everyone will want to thank him for.
“There are no issues between us, he has gone about this in the right way and it enables him to say a proper goodbye in front of everyone on Friday at our last official fixture. I’m sure he will get the reception he deserves from our fans.
“He will be made available for transfer, we’ll be inviting sensible offers from other clubs who would wish to sign him, and naturally he will leave with our very best wishes for the future.”
