Tinkoff-Saxo's Alberto Contador has won the 2014 Velo d'Or.
The Velo d'Or is awarded to the best rider of the year by Vélo Magazine and Contador took the award ahead of Vincenzo Nibali and Alejandro Valverde.
Contador won La Vuelta as well as the Tirreno-Adriatico and the Vuelta al País Vasco and finished second in the World Tour Rankings and second in Volta ao Algarve, Volta a Catalunya and Critérium du Dauphiné.
This was the fourth time that the Spaniard has won Velo d'Or, having won in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and he takes over as the holder from Chris Froome who won it in 2013 and Sir Bradley Wiggins the 2012 winner.
